About us
The "Terreiro das Pretas" is an autonomous quilombola community, governed and inspired by those who came before us and those who will come after us, a unique way of existence inspired by the ways of being of our Black people who have always resisted colonization.

The "Terreiro das Pretas" has been home for over twenty years to part of the Neves Carvalho Family, a family descendant from the Saco dos Cansanção Quilombo, in Araripina/PE, but which has been living in the city of Crato/CE for decades.

We consider ourselves a kind of home-school. We are developers of "another relational and cultural pedagogy," both for our residents and for those who visit and enjoy the terreiro, since we believe that the Good Living is only possible if more people share this socio-cultural experience: we are creators of bridges and escape routes.

Our initiative is precisely a complex, a gathering, a grouping, a quilombola of different cultural activities, because we believe that diversity is one of the founding characteristics of Afro-Brazilian practices and thoughts. Among our activities are: AFROENTREPRENEURSHIP, BAOBÁ PATHS, CINEMÁFRICA, HEALING SPACES, and CULTURAL FORMATION SPACES.

What brought us here is the belief that it is necessary to keep the memory ALIVE of Afro-Brazilian cultural productions by practicing them and/or producing them and/or gathering them and inviting more Black people to create, be and enjoy these moments.
